Restaurants Putting Mobile Tech on Their Menu
If you find yourself suffering from separation anxiety at restaurants and retailers when it comes time to hand over your credit card to a server or a cashier, you're in luck. Those days may be coming to an end.
According to the latest industry projections summarized in a new industry infographic released Tuesday by PayAnywhere, mobile payment transactions are projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2017.
In Chetan Sharma's 2013 mobile predictions survey, 35 percent of respondents said mobile payments will be the big breakthrough technology this year - particularly among restaurants. Experts assert that mobile payments “liberate restaurants from the constraints and costs of traditional POS systems and open up game-changing new ways to capture information about customers that will help operators earn their loyalty.”
As mobile POS technology evolves, PayAnywhere asserts, restaurants will soon be able to send coupons to the phones of customers who opt-in based on their shopping habits or geographic location. They will also be able to offer sophisticated, mobile-based loyalty programs.
So how will mobile payments impact your dining experience in the coming years? Check out this new infographic for some clues.
